Last Post from France

Well, our time in France is up :( We leave tomorrow morning early - as in, they are picking us up at 6:40 a.m. Needless to say we will be tired tomorrow! We ate at a cafe tonight and had dessert and drinks afterwards - and of course picked up a crepe on the way back to the hotel.

We went to Versailles yesterday and took the train to Reims today. Versailles was AMAZING! You are told how big it is, you see the pictures, but until you are there you have no idea how HUGE the place is. I loved every minute of it (Adam was awesome and let me drag him around to all of the Marie Antoinette areas).

We went to Reims today. It was the perfect ending to our trip. It is a smaller French town and it was nice to see some place other than Paris while we were here. The language barrier came in to play a little more there, but we managed. We were able to go to the Reims cathedral as well as a champagne tour. The champagne tour was more fun than I thought it would be. It is crazy how much goes into the making of it and how big their cellar underground was - 25km of passageways!

We should be back in DC around 1:30 EDT tomorrow. We pick Harold up around 3 (YAY) and then starts the trying really hard to stay up until at least 8, part of our day. Therefore, I am hoping to post the first day of Paris with pictures tomorrow evening (in order to stay awake) so stay posted.

Until then, au revoir from Paris!

Paris - Post Deux

Bonjour,

We just finished day trois à Paris!! Since I posted last, we have been to the Museé D'Orsay, the Museè de l'Orangerie, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysées, Sacré-Coeur, Montmarte, the Centre Pompidou, le Marais and the Jardin du Luxembourg! Needless to say our feet are hurting us! But we spend the evenings eating which makes the feel much better (don't worry Krystal, we have had an eclair for you).

We are planning on doing the Eiffel Tower tomorrow night and we are also hoping to get some dessert and champagne there as well. We are planning out a "cafe hop" (as we have termed it) Wednesday night. We both LOVE the cafe world here - it suits us perfectly. We hope to go to Le Deux Magots to start off our "cafe hop" (if you have any recommendations for cafes, please post).

I have tried to get some pictures to upload, but technology is not working with me, so I will do a day by day posting once we are back with pictures of where we have been. We hope that you all are well, and don't worry, we know that Harold is too! We watched him on the webcam this eveing - we are missing him right now :) You can watch him too at Dogtopia!

Till later - au revoir!

Paris - Jour Un

So, I am going to try and type most of what we have done so far, but the keyboards here are a little different (the a is where the q is and the w and z are switched and don't get me started on the mess that is the m), so bear with me if there are any misspellings (that and it is a french spell checking computer so I hope that you can understand most of what I say).

We got in yesterday and have already been to a lot of places. We walked around after arriving at our hotel at 2:30 p.m. We experienced many different places and attempts at speaking poor french in order to find a place to buy the museum pass (it was harder than you would have thought). It did allow us to see more of Paris right away which was nice. After said purchase, we ended up finding a sandwich place right by the Louvre and sat between it and the Tuileries gardens. We were also able to have our first site of the effiel tower! (all which is documented in pictures - we stick out like a sore thumb as tourists, we have a camera and really big goofy grins on our faces saying things like "look look a parisian pigeon").

After lunch we went on a marathon walk around the left bank. It was exhausting and amazing all at the same time. We went in the Chapel of Saint-Germaine and St. Sulpice. Both of which were amazing, each different and unique. We came back to the hotel and tried to stay up until we thought it would be safe to go to sleep because of the time change - we both didnt get that much sleep on the plane.

This morning we woke up (eaiser said than done) and went to the Louvre!!!! It was amazing just walking into the courtyard with the pyramid. The building is so much better than the pictures! I have found that there are some places that you think are going to be bigger than they are etc. Not the Louvre - it is more amazing and much bigger than you excpect. We pretty much spent the entire day there. We covered most of the musuem (by not looking at all of the paintings in the rooms obviously). We took lots of pictures and will post a lot of them when we get back state side. There were many MANY moments in the Louver where we just stopped, looked at each other and said "omg - we are in PARIS!!

We walked up Rue de L'Opera to ... the Opera House! Along the way we found a going out of business sale and I was able to buy a top for only 10 euros! I felt very Parisian! The Opera wasn't open, but the outside was what we really wanted to see. After that we came back to rest before dinner, which we had at one of the many bistros, cafes, restaurants etc in our neighborhood. It was Awesome!! We have decided that there should be cafes in the US that face all of the chairs towards to street, it is really relaxing just sitting there and watching everyone go by. I can't wait for dinner tomorrow night.

After dinner we made our most important purchase of the trip ... Pride & Prejudice in French! It's beautiful! I tried to put a picture up, but it's not working, I will once we are home.

That's it for tonight. I will try to post as often as I can, but I can already tell that this is going to be an exhausting trip, and I want to save my energy for Paris! (I still can't believe that we are actually here!)
